Swashbuckler’s Ball

The sixth Swashbucklers Ball will take place Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011 at the Seelbach Hotel, from 6:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. The pirate-themed event benefits St. Mary’s Center, a non-profit organization serving teens and adults with intellectual disabilities. The event includes an elegant dinner, live music by Caribou, and dancing. A prize is given for the Best Pirate Costume (although costumes are optional).

An exciting feature repeated from last year’s ball is the Treasure Hunt. Guests purchase keys to a treasure chest during the evening and, following a suspenseful elimination process, five winning keys will remain. Each of the lucky holders of the five keys will select an outstanding prize to take home, valued at over $2000.00 apiece. Also guests can participate in the Schooner Lagoon by purchasing access to their selected schooner from a pirate “fleet” sailing on a lagoon in the ballroom. Guests can them “loot its booty”, and receive a gift worth $25.00 – $150.00, there will also be silent auction items to bid on as well. All prizes and gifts have been donated by area businesses.

All proceeds from the 2011 Swashbucklers Ball benefit St. Mary’s Center. Located in Middletown and drawing from Metro Louisville and surrounding counties, the center currently serves over 150 intellectually disabled students through its day program, after-school program and athletics program. Its mission is three fold: to create an environment for students that fosters positive self-image; to provide students with meaningful experiences and opportunities for personal, educational and social development; and to enhance the overall quality of life for students, as well as their families. The result is adults and teens who become more independent and productive members of their community.

Cost of the event is $100.00 per person, and reservations can be made by calling St. Mary’s Center at 502-244-0082. Tickets for eight or ten.
